简短回答: For a Canadian small business, SEO can be a standalone one-time project or a monthly plan; the choice depends on the work needed. At Abiyas Digital Marketing, our published SEO pricing is an optional US$299 standalone SEO setup, or a monthly plan of US$199, US$399, or US$699 per month depending on the agreed scope — plus HST. The US$299 setup can be purchased on its own. It is not a compulsory fee before starting a monthly plan. The US$199 SEO Basics plan is limited foundational work, not a full-service content or link-building campaign. Across the wider market, prices vary with scope. Judge deliverables, reporting and methods rather than assuming that a low price means poor work. Below is what those numbers actually buy, why quotes differ so much, and how to judge any SEO quote — including ours.
What you’re actually paying for: setup vs monthly
SEO pricing can cover different kinds of engagement. A one-time setup addresses an agreed foundation checklist. A monthly plan covers recurring work at the selected tier; you do not have to buy both.
The one-time setup — US$299
The standalone setup is a defined foundation project. Its quoted scope covers:
- Technical audit. Checking whether Google can crawl and index your site properly, how fast it loads, whether it works on mobile, and whether the site structure helps or hurts you.
- Keyword research. Finding the actual phrases your customers type when they’re ready to buy — your services, in your service areas — and mapping them to the right pages.
- On-page foundations. Fixing titles, meta descriptions, headings, and internal linking on your key pages so each page clearly targets what it should.
- Local foundations. Setting up or cleaning up your Google 商家资料 and making sure your business name, address, and phone number are consistent where they appear online.
- Measurement. Making sure traffic and inquiries can be tracked, so that months from now you can see what the work produced instead of guessing.
The monthly plans — US$199 / US$399 / US$699 per month
Rankings aren’t a one-time fix; competitors keep publishing, Google keeps adjusting, and new searches appear. The recurring work depends on the plan. These are possible workstreams across the tiers, not everything included in the US$199 plan:
- Ongoing optimisation. More pages improved over time — service pages, location pages, existing content tightened against what people actually search.
- Content work. Planning and producing content that targets real questions and services, which is what earns rankings beyond your homepage.
- Local SEO upkeep. Keeping your Google Business Profile active and accurate, watching your local presence, and keeping your details consistent across the web.
- Monitoring and reporting. Watching what moved, fixing what slipped, and reporting it in plain English — what was done, what changed, what’s next.
SEO Basics is US$199 per month for the published limited basics: on-page optimization for up to 10 pages, Google Business Profile setup, 5 target keywords tracked, a technical audit, metadata and image-alt work, sitemap and robots.txt setup, and a monthly report. It is not an unlimited content or outreach campaign. SEO Growth is US$399 per month with its published expanded scope, including 2 SEO blog posts per month. SEO Authority is US$699 per month with its published strategy and outreach scope. Your quote confirms deliverables and any additional work. The full breakdown of each plan is on our 价格页, and our services overview shows how SEO fits with websites and ecommerce operations.
Why SEO cost in Canada varies from business to business
Ask three providers and you’ll get three wildly different numbers — partly because of who’s quoting, but partly because these factors genuinely change the work:
- Competition. Ranking a niche tradesperson in a small town is a different job from ranking a dentist, lawyer, or renovation company across Toronto or the GTA, where dozens of businesses are paying for the same visibility.
- Geography. Targeting one neighbourhood costs less effort than a whole city, several service areas, or customers across Canada.
- Your starting point. A clean, modern site is a head start. An old site with technical problems, thin pages, or damage from a previous provider’s shortcuts can take months of cleanup before growth work even begins. And if the website itself is the problem, fix that first — our guide to what a website costs in Toronto lays out those numbers.
- Scope. One service in one city is a small job. Five services, three locations, and an online store is not.
- Content readiness. If you can supply photos, service details, and answers about your business, work moves faster. If everything has to be created from scratch, that’s real work and it shows in the quote.
SEO pricing models, compared honestly
Hourly consulting. You pay for time, typically for advice or a specific fix. Flexible and useful if you have someone in-house to do the work — but the total cost is unpredictable, and advice without execution changes nothing.
Monthly retainer. The most common model, and ours. A set monthly amount buys a continuing block of work. It suits SEO because rankings compound: each month builds on the last. Judge a retainer by its stated deliverables and reporting, not by promises about positions.
One-off projects. A defined job — an audit, a cleanup, a launch optimisation — for a fixed price. Legitimate and sometimes exactly right, but SEO is rarely one-and-done; a project can fix foundations, it can’t maintain momentum by itself.
“Cheap SEO.” This is where small businesses get burned, so be precise about what the warning signs are. Cheap by itself isn’t the sin — our own entry plan is US$199 a month, published openly. The damage comes from offers built on secret methods: guaranteed “#1 on Google” claims nobody can honestly make, bought links and other black-hat tactics that can get your site penalised, spam content farmed out at scale, and long lock-in contracts that keep billing you whether or not anything improves. Worst of all, some providers set everything up under accounts they control — so when you leave, your listings, content, and data leave with them. A cleanup after a penalty costs far more than doing SEO properly from the start.
How to judge any SEO quote (including ours)
Before you sign anything, from anyone, check these:
- Is the price published and itemised? If a provider won’t show numbers until a salesperson has you on a call, ask why.
- Does it say what work actually happens each month? “SEO services” is not a deliverable. Pages optimised, content produced, and reports sent are.
- Do you get reporting you can understand? You should be able to see what was done and what it produced, in plain language.
- Who owns everything? Your website, your content, and your Google Business Profile should be yours, in your accounts. Anything else is a hostage arrangement.
- What are the exit terms? Ask what happens if you stop — before you start — and get the answer in writing.
- Are rankings being guaranteed? Any provider promising a specific position by a specific date is telling you what you want to hear, not what’s true.
We hold our own offer to the same test: every price is published on our 价格页, and you work directly with Victor, a Toronto-based marketing and ecommerce specialist, and receive an agreed scope before work begins.
Frequently asked questions
How much should a small business expect to pay for SEO?
At Abiyas, SEO cost in Canada is an optional US$299 standalone setup, or a US$199, US$399, or US$699 monthly plan depending on scope; the setup is not a prerequisite for a monthly plan, plus HST. Across the wider market, agencies commonly charge anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand dollars a month depending on the market and scope, and freelancers often come in lower — the range is wide because the work behind the label varies so much. Whatever you pay, you should be able to see exactly what it covers.
Are taxes included in the prices?
No. All prices are in US dollars (CAD invoices available on request) and HST is extra, as shown on the pricing page. Your written quote shows the full total including HST before you commit to anything.
How long before SEO starts paying off?
Honestly: months, not days. Technical fixes and better pages can start helping quickly, but meaningful movement in rankings and inquiries typically takes several months of consistent work, and longer in competitive markets. SEO compounds — the businesses that benefit most are the ones that give it a fair run and judge it on inquiries, not daily ranking checks. Any provider promising page one within a few weeks is selling you something.
Am I locked into a long contract?
Terms vary across the industry — some providers lock clients in for six to twelve months, others work month to month, so it’s a fair question to ask any provider, including us, before you sign. What matters is that the terms are in your written quote, in plain language, before money changes hands, and that you keep ownership of your website, content, and profiles whatever happens.
What does the free quote include?
Tell us about your business, your services, and where your customers are, and we’ll look at your current website and local competition, then come back with a fixed quote: which plan fits, what it covers, and the full price including HST. No pressure and no obligation if it isn’t right for you — request one through our contact page.
